Budget Notifications
Take full control over how and when your team is alerted about budget progress - set organisation-wide thresholds, override them per project, and mute the projects that are too noisy.
🎥 Video Tutorial
A walkthrough of global budget-notification thresholds, project-level overrides, and muting notifications on a single project.
Overview
Budget notifications alert the right people when a project consumes a chosen percentage of its budget. You can now:
- Set company-wide thresholds, recipients, and delivery channels.
- Override those settings on individual projects.
- Mute notifications for a noisy project with one click.
Thresholds apply to whichever budget basis a project uses - cost, time, or chargeable amount.
Global Thresholds
Set organisation-wide rules under Settings ➔ Notifications ➔ Projects (in the Notifications you send area).
- Enable Budget Notifications with the slider.
- Set a threshold - the percentage of budget at which to notify (the default is 80% reached).
- Choose who receives the notification:
- All users in your organisation (rarely needed).
- Only the users who are tagged in the project (the default) - users who have contributed time to the project, plus the team manager(s) of the team that owns it.
- A selected group of users - specific individuals or teams that should always be notified.
- Choose the channels:
- Email - sent in near real time as soon as the threshold is reached.
- Alert in Hidma - in-app notification.
You can add multiple thresholds - for example one at 50% and another at 80% - by clicking ➕ ADD ANOTHER BUDGET NOTIFICATION. Each threshold carries its own recipients and channels. These settings apply across every project unless a project overrides them.
Project-Level Overrides
To fine-tune notifications for a single project, open the project's Edit Project page and expand the Budget Notifications subsection (collapsed by default).
- Enable the subsection - it shows the default (global) notifications already in place.
- Adjust the threshold (for example, 85%), recipients, and channels, or add and remove notifications.
Whatever you configure here overrides the global settings for that project only. This is the quick way to give one project a different threshold or a different set of recipients without changing your organisation-wide defaults.
Mute a Project
If a particular project is generating too many notifications, you can silence it instantly:
- Open the project dashboard.
- Click the Mute Notifications button (the bell on the project header).
You'll stop receiving budget notifications for that project. Click the button again at any time to switch them back on.
Muting is per-user
Muting affects only your own notifications for that project - it doesn't change what your colleagues receive.
